Bitcoin Has Broken Records in 2024
According to the new edition of The Crypto Wealth Report 2024 prepared by the consulting firm Henley & Partners, the number of millionaires with fortunes based on crypto assets has skyrocketed in 2024 , increasing by 95% compared to the data for 2023.
More crypto millionaires and richer ones
The Henley & Partners report considers a crypto-millionaire to be someone with more than $1 million in assets invested in crypto assets . Under this consideration, the study has counted a total of 172,300 people worldwide. This represents an increase of 95% compared to the 88,200 people recorded in the 2023 edition.
However, while it is true that the segment that has grown the most has been the “base of the first million” dollars, the segments with fortunes of more than one hundred million dollars (cent millionaires) and with more than one billion dollars (billionaires) of investment in cryptocurrencies have also increased in the last year.

Much of this increase is due to the upward trend registered by bitcoin, the most recognized cryptocurrency globally. The millionaires who base their fortune on this cryptocurrency have grown by 111% since 2023, according to the report.
This is largely due to several factors that have boosted the price of Bitcoin throughout the year: the approval of Bitcoin ETFs in January and the April halving , which halved the rewards for Bitcoin mining. In addition, these events were followed by the subsequent launch of the Ethereum ETFs in July, which were a resounding success. All of this contributed to the price of Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high of $73,000 in March.
“Bitcoin’s new all-time high and the long-awaited approval of ETFs unleashed a torrent of institutional capital,” Henley & Partners analysts explain in their report, referring to the incorporation of large investment funds such as BlackRock, Fidelity and Morgan Stanley into the cryptocurrency market. This injection of capital has been key in the normalization of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies within the global financial ecosystem .
According to the 2024 report, the total market value of cryptocurrencies has reached $2.3 trillion, an increase of 89% from $1.2 trillion recorded in the 2023 report.
Rising Centimillionaires and Billionaires
In 2024, the number of millionaires who hold more than $100 million in cryptocurrency has significantly increased. Specifically, they have increased by 79% over the last year, reaching 325 people in total, of which 156 people are multimillionaires exclusively due to their investments in bitcoin.
This means that the number of Bitcoin billionaires has increased by 100%, as in 2023 there were only 78 people with a net worth of over $100 million in the asset.
The number of cryptocurrency billionaires has increased to a lesser extent, but has still registered a growth of 27%, adding 28 people in total, six more than in 2013.
It is striking that virtually all of the new billionaires in 2024 have been created through their investments in bitcoin, which goes from having only six billionaires in 2023, to 11 billionaires with all their investments in bitcoin in 2024. That is, an annual growth of 83%.
